Snapshot Category

Cmdlets are usually implemented around resource operations. The four basic operations are CREATE, READ, UPDATE and DELETE. This set of operations is known as CRUD. Most of the cmdlets support CRUD which are respectively cmdlets that start with the New/Get/Set/Remove cmdlet verbs but they also may have additional operations

Step 1: Retrieve a object by running a Get command

You can READ objects by using Get-Snapshot cmdlet. See example below:

# Retrieves the snapshot named "Before ServicePack2" of the VM virtual machine.

Get-Snapshot -VM VM -Name 'Before ServicePack 2'

Step 2 : Run commands from the CRUD group

You can CREATE objects by using New-Snapshot cmdlet. See example below:

# Creates a new snapshot of the VM virtual machine named BeforePatch.

New-Snapshot -VM VM -Name BeforePatch
You can UPDATE objects by using Set-Snapshot cmdlet. See example below:

# Sets the name and the description of the snapshot in the $snapshot variable.

Set-Snapshot -Snapshot $snapshot -Name BeforePatch -Description "Before windows update"
You can REMOVE objects by using Remove-Snapshot cmdlet. See example below:

# Removes the snapshot in the $snapshot variable and its children.

Remove-Snapshot -Snapshot $snapshot1 -RemoveChildren
